…Online…?

So my blog (as well as most of my sites) have been offline since Saturday night, when a colossal power outage at one of Dreamhost’s datacenters left the entire network inaccessible (SPF, I know!). Everything has been popping up intermittently, so I can’t even guarantee this post will actually show up on the page.

Anyway, we are monitoring the situation, and will post a full report after this is all over.

About this quiz

Unhappiness in relationships is often due to the fact that we speak different love languages. It can be helpful to know what language you speak and what language those around you speak.

Tag 3 people so they can find out what their love language is.

PHP5 Upgrade Tomorrow

My host will be upgrading PHP5 on all their servers tomorrow. What does that mean for us? Well, hopefully everything driven by PHP on my sites, including this blog, the wiki, and the forum (not to mention the main site, whenever I finish re-writing the code) will experience better performance. However, since most people will have been too incompetent to read the Dreamhoststatus.com blog, they will complain about some of their softwares not working any more. Fools!

1998 Ford Escort SE: Changing a rear tail light

I learned something today. It seems I’m the first person who’s needed to change a bulb in the rear tail light of my particular vehicle’s model year.

It’s actually quite remarkably easy to do with few tools available, assuming you have a spare bulb. Your local Ford dealership can help you with that; I bought a spare bulb at Courtesy Ford for $2.66. Here’s how to change it:

  1. Pop the trunk
  2. Remove the two Phillips-head screws holding the cover on
  3. Using a slotted screwdriver, pry the cover away from the side of the vehicle (carefully!)
  4. Twist the bulb seat away from the cover, a 1/3 turn counterclockwise.
  5. Pull the old bulb out; discard according to any local laws
  6. Push new bulb in
  7. Test both your turn signal functions and brake light functions!!!!!
  8. Return bulb assembly to cover; twist 1/3 turn clockwise to reattach it
  9. Push tail light assembly clips into the seats on the side of the vehicle
  10. Replace the two Phillips-head screws holding the cover on
  11. Close the trunk; clean up

As you can see, it is quite easy; performing this operation takes less than 15 minutes if executed properly and you have an idea of what you need to do. In my case, it took slightly longer, because there is no material available on the internet. Therefore, I hope this page can become a useful guide to anyone who needs to change the turn signal/brake bulb on their 1998 Ford Escort SE.

…I’m qualified for this?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

A more accurate title would be “I can LEGALLY do this?!?!?!?!?”

So yesterday, our ETL-Pharmacy came down to Food Avenue on her lunch break. Nathan, Andrea, and myself were all working there, and just happened to ask whether any of us would like to fill a shift for her next Friday (the 23rd). Well, we all looked at schedule book. As it turned out, Nathan was out of town at that particular time, and Andrea was already scheduled that day. I, however, had the day off.

So, now I have brand-new sparkling 10-hour shift in the Pharmacy next Friday. I just didn’t know I COULD legally work in the pharmacy, being as how I’ve never studied anything about medicine or drugs or things like that.

Welcome to another week

Well, here it is, Sunday night, and I should have finished all my schoolwork by now. Unsurprisingly, I haven’t.

I now have the Driving Disc of Doom III: This Time, It’s Not The Driving Disc of Doom II loaded into my car. The full playlist will be posted; for now, I haven’t really decided whether the playlists are going to occupy space in the blog (because I almost NEVER update anymore, although I hope to change that) or whether I’m going to build those into the main site, perhaps at www.mattfast1.com/cd-playlists… ’tis a conundrum.

Recently (Friday) I bought a Network Adaptor Start-Up Disc for my PS2. Once that arrives, I’ll probably start playing DDR Extreme 2 online (under the handle ‘mattfast1′, of course!). I kinda suck, so it’ll at least get me into shape. Hopefully. If not, I’ll bust out some other game I can play online. I suppose the sky’s the limit, especially since the PS3 is gathering dust on retailer’s shelves, most people are sticking with PS2. At least until prices come down. Seriously, who did Sony think they were fooling? I thought Microsoft was crazy when they said their BASIC system would cost $299.99, and then Sony announces their base system would be $499.99. They were definitely targeting rich, upper-middle to upper-class citizens with that one, that’s for sure. I know my parents wouldn’t have EVER forked out $600 on a game system for me, and I never will for my kids. They can buy their own, like I had to.

We’re baaaack…..

Apparently the blog is working again. That’s always good news.

The reason it broke (forgive me if I go into technical terms here, and I don’t stop to explain) is because I had some older versions of plugins running on this site. When Wordpress did its nightly update, the functions that these plugins were using became obsolete. Therefore, it had to wait for the current version to update first.

Now, we’re running the bleeding edge (v2.2) of Wordpress. It may crash occasionally, but I will do the best I can to remove the software that causes crashy behavior, because I really hate seeing ANY of my software inaccessible.
